
Henri & Anderson Named IFL Co-Special Teams POW

MIDLAND, TX. : The West Texas Roughnecks are excited to announce on Wednesday, March 10 that LB Eric Henri and WR Johnny Anderson have both been selected as Co-Special Teams Players of the Week in the IFL for Week Two of the regular season. Anderson and Henri combined to help complete the come-from-behind win over the Abilene Ruff Riders back on Saturday, March 6 with Anderson blocking a last-minute field goal attempt and Henri recovering the ball for the go-ahead touchdown.
Henri led the Roughnecks defense back on March 6 by posting five total tackles with two tackles-for-loss, one fumble recovery, one sack and a touchdown. Offensively, Johnny Anderson posted three receptions for 39 yards in the 36-33 win for the Roughnecks. It is the first time this season that two players from the same club have been awarded as Co-Special Teams Players of the Week in the IFL.
"I'm very excited for Johnny and Eric. Both players made impact plays to help us win the ball game and both were important leaders on the field during the second half." stated West Texas Roughnecks Head Coach Chris Williams.
Eric Henri (6'1", 220 lbs.) was acquired by the Roughnecks back on November 17, 2009 following an impressive collegiate career at Mary Hardin-Baylor. As a senior in 2008, Henri was named the ASC Defensive Player of the Year and was a First Team All-Conference selection after posting 97.0 total tackles with 11.5 tackles-for-loss and three sacks in 14 games played. Henri was additionally named to the AP Little All-American Third Team following the '08 season. Henri was also named to the ASC All-Conference First Team as a junior in 2007 and in 2006 as a sophomore.
Johnny_Anderson_Action_Pic.jpgWR Johnny Anderson (6'1", 210) re-signed with the Roughnecks back in late February after spending the last four seasons with the Corpus Christi Hammerheads. Anderson finished in the top five in total tackles, tackles-for-loss and interceptions during those seasons with the Hammerheads. In 2009, Anderson finished fourth on the team with 49.0 total tackles including four interceptions and three fumble recoveries. In 2005, while with the Roughnecks, Anderson finished third on the team with seven interceptions and finished fourth with 55.0 total tackles. Anderson played his college ball at Jefferson State.
The Roughnecks will have their home-opener of the 2010 season on Saturday, March 13 versus the Amarillo Venom. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:11 p.m. from the Ector County Coliseum.
