(Bridgewater, N.J.) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 3-1 on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series at TD Bank Ballpark.

Neither side dented home plate until the bottom of the sixth inning. Jimmy Paredes reached on a leadoff infield single to third base, and Mike Ohlman followed two batters later with an RBI double to left field, putting the Patriots ahead 1-0.

Long Island rallied back in the eighth inning to jump in front. Following a leadoff single to center field by Kirk Nieuwenhuis and an infield single to third by Deibinson Romero, Hector Sanchez launched a one-out, three-run home run to right field, giving the Ducks a 3-1 lead.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Jake Fisher pitched five and one-third innings of one-run ball for the Ducks, allowing eight hits and one walk while striking out four. Liam O'Sullivan tossed six scoreless innings for the Patriots, yielding four hits and four walks with seven strikeouts. Cody Mincey (2-0) picked up the win with one and two-thirds scoreless innings of relief, striking out one. Mike Broadway (1-3) suffered the loss, conceding three runs on three hits in the eighth inning. Enrique Burgos earned his seventh save of the year with a perfect ninth, striking out two.

Ezequiel Carrera led the Flock offensively with three hits, while Romero added two.
