Harrisburg Heat News Release

Playing the two best teams twice in two days proved unhealthy for the Heat over the weekend, as the team lost to the Milwaukee Wave 15-6 on Friday night and fell 17-16 to the Philadelphia KiXX on Saturday. As a result, the Heat is now 10-16, a half-game behind Baltimore for the Eastern Conference's third and final playoff spot.

Milwaukee employed a typical mix of suffocating defense and opportunistic offense in Friday's 15-6 win at the Farm Show Arena. David Barbosa, Ze Roberto, and David Bascome scored the three Heat goals against Wave goalkeeper Victor Nogueira, who saved 22 of 25 shots in net. Todd Dusosky scored five points and Marcelo Fontana added a pair of goals for Milwaukee. Chris Damico saved 15 shots for the Heat.

Harrisburg came up just short once again in the latest installment of a tight season series with Philadelphia on Saturday at the Old House. With a 17-16 win, the KiXX improved to 5-0 this season against Harrisburg; Philly has won those five games by a total of only 12 points. A frantic Heat comeback brought the hosts within one point with just over a minute to play, but Peter Pappas (15 saves) and the KiXX defense held on for the win. Ato Leone (two 2pgs, assist) and Marco Coria (2pg, three assists) scored five points apiece for Harrisburg. Raul Salas (eight saves) took the loss in goal; Salas replaced Damico at halftime.

BASCOME ON THE BRINK:

Heat veteran David Bascome scored four points on Saturday against the KiXX to give him 896 for his career. With only four more points, Bascome will become the 17th player in League history to hit the 900-point plateau.

THIS WEEK FOR THE HEAT:

Thursday, February 6, San Diego Sockers, San Diego Sports Arena, 10:05 p..m. EST
Saturday, February 8, Kansas City Comets, Kemper Arena, 9:05 p.m. EST

Facing a more urgent playoff situation, the Heat now embarks on its annual February road trip. Beginning with this Thursday night's game in San Diego, Harrisburg will play six straight games away from home, returning to the Farm Show on Wednesday, March 5 for the first annual Got Milk? School Day Game.

The Heat is 3-0 this season against the Sockers, winning by scores of 13-7 on October 11 in San Diego, 12-10 in overtime in Harrisburg on December 1, and 14-12 in overtime in Harrisburg on December 14. Thursday will mark the Heat's first visit to San Diego Sports Arena, but not the last; Harrisburg will return to the West Coast for the final game of the season between these two teams on March 15.

Harrisburg has not fared as well against the Comets, going 0-3 against Kansas City this season. The Heat has lost to K.C. by scores of 15-10 (on November 10 in Harrisburg), 19-8 (December 31 in Kansas City), and 20-14 (January 4 in Harrisburg). Following Saturday's game, these two teams will meet only once more, on Sunday, March 23, in the final regular season game for both teams.
