Abbotsford Heat News Release

The Abbotsford Heat's first ever ‘Heat in the Street' 4 on 4 street hockey tournament took place this past Saturday and struck a positive chord with the community. The event hosted 7 teams in round robin play, followed by a cross over playoff format. The two teams left in the final were the Abbotsford Police Department Thunderbirds and The Hawks - a group of players from Abbotsford Minor Hockey. Jason Jaffray and John Negrin also made an appearance part way through the event to sign autographs for those participating in and watching the event.

The final match up saw the Abbotsford Police Department Thunderbirds triumph over The Hawks to take the ‘Heat in the Street' tournament trophy and the grand prize - which included 14 suite tickets to the 1st Heat playoff home date, a $200 food and beverage credit and some exclusive 2010 Calder Cup Playoffs t-shirts. The Hawks did not go away empty handed, their team received 2 free large pizzas courtesy of Boston Pizza. In the spirit of generosity the APD decided to donate their winnings to the Big Brother Big Sisters of Abbotsford so that their members can take in the game.

"Thank you to the Abbotsford Police Department for providing a great opportunity for some of our Big Brother/Big Sister matches to enjoy watching an exciting play-off hockey game. Seven of our matches are excited for the chance to be spoiled watching the game in a first-class suite along with our Littles receiving play-off t-shirts and enjoying an assortment of great food. Special thanks to the police officers for paying it forward and allowing our Littles to share in ‘your win'. You Rock!" commented Cheryl Unger, mentoring coordinator with Big Brothers Big Sisters Abbotsford branch.

All of the sponsors and partners involved were incredibly pleased with the event and a huge thank you goes to Magnuson Ford for hosting, Boston Pizza and Van Houtte coffee for supplying food and beverages and to Country 107.1 who not only brought a team to the event but had their promo crew on hand for most of the day.
