Heaney to New Orleans; Rogers and O'Gara to Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Miami Marlins announced a series of transactions that impact their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to tomorrow's game against the Jackson Generals at Bragan Field at 7:05 p.m.

Left-handed starting pitcher Andrew Heaney has been transferred from Jacksonville to Triple-A New Orleans. Heaney, listed by Baseball America as the Marlins No. 1 prospect and the top left-handed pitching prospect in baseball, went 4-2 with a 2.35 ERA in nine appearances and eight starts for Jacksonville this season. Heaney was selected by the Marlins in the first round (ninth overall pick) out of Oklahoma State in 2012.

Overall in his time with the Suns in 2013 and 2014, Heaney was 8-3 with a 2.58 ERA in 14 starts.

In a corresponding move, right-handed starting pitcher Jared Rogers has been transferred from New Orleans to Jacksonville. With the Zephyrs this season, Rogers went 1-1 with a 6.98 ERA in eight apperances and six starts. Rogers is a former Jacksonville Sun, working in one game in 2011 where he took the loss. Rogers was selected by the Marlins in the 36th round of the 2010 draft out of Rice University.

The Marlins also announced that right-handed relief pitcher Joey O'Gara has been transferred from High-A Jupiter to Jacksonville. O'Gara is 1-0 with a 0.54 ERA in 15 relief appearances, and his eight saves are the third-most in the Florida State League. O'Gara has previously pitched in Jacksonville, going 7-9 with a 4.55 ERA in 27 starts in 2011, and he was 1-1 with a 0.77 ERA in two starts in 2012 before injury ended his season. O'Gara was selected by the Marlins in the 31st round of the 2009 draft out of Indiana University.

The Suns roster now stands at 25 active players and a revised roster is attached.

The Suns are off today but will begin a 10-day, 11-game homestand starting on Wednesday May 21st with the opener of a five-game series against the Jackson Generals. The Suns are likely to start right-hander Jose Urena (4-2, 4.87), while the Generals are due to counter with the lefty Tyler Olson (1-1, 5.06).
