Birmingham Barons News Release

Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons snapped their five-game losing streak, scoring an 18-9 win over the Huntsville Stars Monday in their finalregular season game at Joe Davis Stadium.

The Barons scored early and often, displaying an offense that had been dormant for many games while hitting five home runs en route to their biggest run scoring output of the season. Jamie Pedroza's three-run home run ignited the scoring as part of a four-run second inning. The homer was Pedroza's team-leading fourth of the season.

Atwo-run home run by Michael Earley in the fourth inning extended the lead to 6-1 while a Keenyn Walker solo home run and Rangel Ravelo two-run double in the sixth gave the Barons a comfortable cushion at 10-1.

In his Double-A debut, Mike Recchia (1-0, 1.80) allowed a run on five hits over 5.0 innings while striking out two. Kevin Vance relieved Recchia in the sixth inning and allowed six runs on five hits including a Grand Slam by Shea Vucinich, cutting the lead to 10-7.

The Barons thwarted the threat, answering with five runs in the seventh highlighted by a two-run home run from Jeremy Farrell and RBI hits by Chris Curley, Kevan Smith and Earley.

Christian Marrero capped a 3-for-6 night with a three-run home run in the ninth inning to extend the Barons lead to 18-9.

The 18 runs scored were the most for the Barons since scoring 19 runs in a 19-15 win at Huntsville on July 7th, 2005.

Chris Curley helped pace the Barons offense with three hits, finishing 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI while Pedroza, Smith, Earley and Walker finished with two hits apiece.

With the win, the Barons improved to 17-27 on the season while Huntsville fell to 30-15. The Barons are off on Tuesday before traveling to Pensacola for a five-gameseries against the Blue Wahoos. The Barons will send RHP Nick McCully (2-3,6.55) to the hill against RHP Daniel Corcino. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM CDT on Wednesday.
