Pensacola Blue Wahoos Homestand Highlights May 21 - 25

May 20, 2014 - Southern League (SL1)
Pensacola Blue Wahoos News Release

Three to Watch on the Birmingham Barons (Chicago White Sox):

#21, Trace Thompson, OF:

Trace Thompson is the brother of Golden State Warrior's smooth-shooting guard, Klay Thompson. Scouts compare him to Jermaine Dye, but with more athleticism and speed. Thompson is the seventh best prospect in the White Sox system according to Baseball America. The outfielder belted 15 home runs and added 73 RBI while playing with Birmingham in 2013.

#50, Chris Beck, RHP:

Chris Beck is a former second-round pick of the White Sox back in 2012. Beck's fastball can hit 95 mph and he uses his changeup as a weapon. The right-hander went 2-2 with a 2.89 ERA over five starts with Birmingham last season and pitched particularly well in the Double-A Southern League playoffs. If Beck can regain his power slider, he has the ability to be a solid No. 2 starter in the big leagues.

#47, Scott Snodgress, LHP:

Scott Snodgress was drafted out of Stanford in the 5th round of the 2011 draft by the White Sox. Snodgress has a nice mix of pitches, but his curveball is ranked as the best in the system. The left-hander went 11-11 with a 4.70 ERA while pitching with the Barons in 2013.

What's Cookin': This homestand's food special, inspired by the Birmingham Barons, is the Barons BBQ Brisket Sandwich. The mouthwatering sandwich has slow-roasted beef brisket in a tangy BBQ sauce, served on a kaiser roll.

Operation Hat Trick Caps : In honor of Military Appreciation Month, this homestand's featured merchandise is the '47 Brand adjustable caps that feature the Operation Hat Trick logo. Operation Hat Trick generates awareness and support for the recovery of wounded service members and veterans through the sale of OHT merchandise.

Donations for the Troops: For Military Appreciation Month, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos and Whataburger will partner to collect donations for the Northwest Florida United Service Organizations (USO). Donations will be collected during the Blue Wahoos' games and the USO will deliver the items directly to the troops currently serving the United States. Fans who donate during the drive will receive a coupon for a free Whataburger. This homestand fans are asked to bring household supplies.
