Calgary Roughnecks News Release
Calgary, AB (Tuesday, December 13, 2005) - Chris Hall, the only Head Coach in the history of the Calgary Roughnecks, today signed a new two-year pact.
Hall, who joined the club just prior to the inaugural 2001-2002 season, is now entering his 32nd year of either playing or coaching field and box lacrosse.
"Chris has done a great job with the team," said General Manager Kurt Silcott, "and I have every confidence he is the right man to lead this club to another championship.
"His tireless efforts to improve the Roughnecks are welcomed by the ownership group, management and players alike."
Hall's honours as a coach, include numerous Mann Cups, WLA Coach of the Year, several provincial Sr. A championships, national championships and medals from world championships in Australia and England.
He was also behind the bench when the Roughnecks hoisted the Champion's Cup in 2004
Chris is credited with having field lacrosse accepted as a demonstration sport at the XV Commonwealth Games which were held in his hometown of Victoria, British Columbia.
When not involved in lacrosse, he is Risk Manager with the British Columbia Buildings Corporation.
General Manager Kurt Silcott also announced that veteran defender Craig Gelsvik will be available for more games than was at first thought.
Due to family commitments, the club did not expect to dress the rugged 6 ft. 3 in., 220 lb. firefighter, until late February.
But Gelsvik, who lives in Vancouver, will now miss only three games - January 13 against Edmonton, and February 17 and 18, against Edmonton and Arizona respectively.
"After talking with Craig we're happy to announce that he'll be available to play for us earlier than anticipated," said Silcott.
"He came to training camp last weekend and looked great. He's big, strong and simply one of the better defenders in the league. His added availability will provide us with stability at the back door all season long."
Gelsvik, 35, was also with the Roughnecks when they won the 2004 Champion's Cup.
