Boise Hawks News Release

Aaron Shafer continued to dominate Northwest League hitters, tossing five innings of one-hit ball, as the Boise Hawks won the rubber game of a three-game series with the first-place Spokane Indians, 6-3, before a sellout crowd of 6,837 fans at Avista Stadium.

The win evens the Hawks record on their 11-game road trip at 4-4 and moves Boise to 4-2 this season against Spokane - six games back of the Tribe in the league standings.

Kyler Burke hit a two-run homer in the second inning to put the Hawks on top, with an RBI fielders choice by Josh Vitters in the third extending the margin to 3-0. Vitters would add an RBI single in the seventh to make it 4-0.

It was all that Shafer needed, as the Wichita State product picked up just the second win by a Boise starting pitcher in 2008. He allowed just two base runners and faced one man over the minimum - walking one, allowing a single, and striking out three. He has thrown ten consecutive shutout innings in his last two appearances.

The Indians made it interesting, as Mike Bianucci hit a three-run homer off Mike Perconte in the seventh to cut the lead to 4-3, but a Carlos Perez RBI single in the eighth, and a Vitters RBI double in the ninth, provided the final margin.

Dan McDaniel logged the final seven outs, striking out four, to pick up his fifth save of the season.

Vitters went 2-for-5 with three RBI, while Kurt Calvert had three hits and Ryan Flaherty had a pair of doubles in the win.

Boise heads tomorrow to Yakima for a three-game set with the Bears, with first pitch at County Stadium set for Saturday at 8:05 p.m.
