Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
WATERLOO, Iowa - Solag Bakich, Garrett Wait and Jackson Cates all scored for the Waterloo Black Hawks as the home team scored four unanswered goals en route to a 5-1 victory over the Dubuque Fighting Saints on Saturday night at Young Arena.
Ben Finklestein, the returner from St. Lawrence University, had a three-point night for the Hawks, as he assisted on three goals and finished the night a +4. Bakich's goal at 2:23 proved to be the eventual game-winning goal on a setup from Finklestein and Matej Blümel. Wait tallied seven minutes later, and Cates ten minutes after that.
Cates added his second after the fourth goal chased Cole Weaver for James Durham, and a combination on a pretty passing play ended up in the back of the net to cap the scoring at 5-1.
The Fighting Saints and Black Hawks worked to a 1-1 tie after the first period, but it didn't come without some adversity. Joey Cassetti got the first one for Waterloo after Bakich dug the puck off the wall and fed the puck rinkwide to Cassetti for his sixth of the season.
Chayse Primeau helped Matias Maccelli get the equalizer. Hard work behind the net by Scott Corbett found Primeau and a centering pass found Maccelli for his seventh goal of the season, and a tie game in the final minute of the first period.
The Fighting Saints' discipline came to the forefront as they did not take a penalty on Saturday night. Waterloo took two, but the Saints' power play could not come through.
The Saints are back in action on Friday, March 16 in Fargo as they take on the Force. Catch all of the action on Dubuque's Super Hits 106.1 FM, or on the USHL's streaming video provider, HockeyTV.
