
Hawks Steal One in Eugene

Eugene, Oregon - Marcos Derkes smacked a two-run ninth inning single that gave the Hawks the lead and the victory as they won their second consecutive game, defeating the Eugene Emeralds by a score of 6-4.
In a game where the Hawks used seven pitchers, David Hill received the first start of his professional baseball career and pitched two innings, giving up two first inning runs.
The Hawks tied the game in the top of the fourth inning when Brian Mundell connected on a two-run home run, his second homer of the season.
The Emeralds added runs in the fifth and eighth innings, taking a 4-2 lead into the top of the ninth before the Hawks put up four runs to take the lead.
Back-to-back singles from Mundell and Hamlet Marte led off the inning before two hit batters and a wild pitch tied the game at 4-4. Marcos Derkes then slapped a two-run single to give the Hawks the 6-4 lead.
Cristian Quintin picked up his third win of the season and Taylor Black closed out the bottom of the ninth to pick up the save as the Hawks (14-24) grabbed the first game of this three game series. These two teams will face off again tomorrow night at 8:15 p.m.
Notes: Taylor Black picked up his fifth save of the season; he is second in the NWL in saves... The Hawks stole two more bases, upping their league-leading total to 83... The Hawks scored six runs on just six hits.
