Everett AquaSox News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - The AquaSox couldn't clinch a first-half title as they fell 10-1 to Spokane on Saturday, July 25, at Everett Memorial Stadium. Joselito Cano helped minimize the damage out of the bullpen with four innings of two-hit ball with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Tri-City won both games of its doubleheader with Vancouver, moving into a tie for first in the Northwest League North Division with the AquaSox. The Dust Devils hold the tiebreaker over the Frogs and can clinch a first-half title with a win. Everett's only first-half title scenario is if it wins and Tri-City loses on Sunday.

Spokane's Tyler Sanchez was hit by four pitches in the ballgame, a new Northwest League record. Darius Day led the Indians at the plate by going 1 for 5 with a three-run home run. Luke Lanphere took the win for Spokane with seven innings in relief, two hits and six strikeouts.

Corey Simpson was 1 for 3 with the AquaSox only run of the game. He doubled to lead off the bottom of the ninth, moved to third on P.J. Jones' groundout, then scored on Jordan Cowan's sacrifice groundout.

Logan Taylor was also 1 for 4 with a double, Braden Bishop went 2 for 4 as the only Frog with multiple hits, and Drew Jackson was 1 for 4. Yordi Calderon drew the AquaSox's only walk of the game.

The AquaSox go for a first-half title and a guaranteed playoff spot at 4:05 p.m., Sunday, July 26, in Everett against the Vancouver Canadians. The first 1,000 fans get a Felix Hernandez bobblehead giveaway, presented by Sound Transit. Fans can also win Mystery Bags of autographed baseballs in a raffle that will benefit the AquaSox Community Fund. Tickets are available online at aquasox.com/tickets and in the front office at 3802 Broadway in Everett.
