Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa - The Waterloo Black Hawks have traded for forward Cam VanSickle, acquiring him from the Green Bay Gamblers in exchange for Carter Batchelder, the teams announced Tuesday.

VanSickle is in his first full United States Hockey League season. To date, he has two goals and two assists in 10 appearances. On November 26th, he scored the game-winner during a two-goal effort against the U.S. National Team Development Program Under-17s. The 17-year-old from Fairbanks, Alaska, also skated in six Gamblers games last season.

VanSickle was originally chosen during Phase I of the 2020 USHL Draft with Green Bay's selection in the ninth overall slot during the opening round. Current Black Hawks players Owen Baker, James Hong, Tucker Shedd, Gavin O'Connell, Patrick Geary, and Jake Rozzi were also all selected during Phase I in 2020.

The 6-foot, left-handed shooter is committed to Denver. He previously was Baker's teammate when both skated for the Honeybaked youth program in Michigan.

Batchelder had played in 18 games this year and three during 2020/21, accumulating a total of three goals and three assists.

The Hawks take the ice for one game this weekend, hosting the Des Moines Buccaneers Friday at 7:05 p.m. It's a Fleet Farm Friday, providing the chance for one lucky fan in attendance to win a $50 Fleet Farm gift card.
