South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

South Bend, IN - With a 4-1 loss to Fort Wayne on Monday evening, the South Bend Silver Hawks remain winless in seven games against the TinCaps this season. The recent slide has stretched the overall losing streak to six games, tied for the longest in 2009 for South Bend.

South Bend starter Brett Moorhouse (LP, 2-6) turned in another strong outing, but left in line for a loss. After going five scoreless innings, Moorhouse finally allowed some runs in the top of the sixth on a leadoff walk followed by a two run homer from Matt Clark for the 2-0 TinCaps lead. Moorhouse was done after 5.1 innings, allowing just two runs on five hits. It was the tenth straight start (every one this season for Moorhouse) that he allowed three earned runs or fewer.

Justin Mace (ND) relieved Moorhouse with one out in the sixth, and was greeted rudely with a solo home run to straightaway center from Sawyer Carroll giving Fort Wayne a 3-0 lead. It was the only run Mace allowed in 1.2 innings of relief.

On the other end, Fort Wayne starter Anthony Bass (WP, 4-3) was in complete control. Bass allowed just one hit over 6.0 innings, striking out three without giving up a run.

South Bend made a game of it briefly in the bottom of the seventh after Bass left the game. With Eric Gonzalez (ND) in relief, Alfredo Marte hit a ball off the wall in center ending up at third with a triple. Ramon Ramirez drove him in with an RBI groundout to cut into the lead at 3-1. Rossmel Perez followed with a single, but a double play ended the threat with the Hawks down two.

Fort Wayne immediately upped the lead to three, when Clark blasted another home run over the wall in right, his second of the game and tenth of the season. The solo shot put Fort Wayne up 4-1, and they wouldn't look back.

Zach Herr (ND) pitched a 1-2-3 eighth and Brad Brach (SV, 16) pitched around a hit batter in the ninth to earn his 16th save.
