Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release

June 8, 2009 - Back to back home runs by Jose Bonilla and Chase Fontaine were enough to send the Burlington Bees to their third win in a row over the Cedar Rapids Kernels, 2-1, on Monday night at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium and send the Kernels to their fourth loss in a row.

Kernels starter Manaurys Correa (2-4) allowed just six hits over six innings, but surrendered the two home runs, as the Kernels were unable to muster more than a single run off Burlington starter Mike Montgomery (1-1).

The Kernels scored their only run in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Angel Castillo. Roberto Lopez went 2 for 4 and Alexi Amarista went 1 for 4 with a double as the Kernels were held to just five hits. Burlington reliever Barry Bowden gave up a lead-off walk to Amarista to start the 9th inning, but struck out Lopez and got Castillo to hit into a game ending double play for his sixth save.
