Burlington Bees News Release
Cedar Rapids, IA (June 8, 2009) - The Burlington Bees used back-to-back homeruns by Jose Bonilla and Chase Fontaine in the second inning Monday night to defeat Cedar Rapids 2-1. The Bees have won the first three games of the series and are now in search of their first four-game sweep this season.
Cedar Rapids scored the first and their only run of the day in the bottom of the first. With one out, Alexi Amarista doubled and then moved to third on a Roberto Lopez single. Angel Castillo then came to the plate and hit a sacrifice fly to score Amarista.
The Bees answered by scoring two runs in the top of the third. Bonilla led the inning off with a homerun to leftfield to tie the game. Fontaine then came to the plate and hit another homerun to right to give the Bees a 2-1 lead. It was the first time this season that the Bees hit back-to-back homeruns. That was all the scoring the Bees needed for the win.
Mike Montgomery got the start and looked great. In six innings, he allowed one run on five hits with one strikeout and no walks. The Bullpen then pitched three no-hit innings. Zach Peterson picked up his first hold pitching one inning with one strikeout. Henry Barrera also picked up his first hold pitching one inning with two strikeouts and one walk. Barry Bowden picked up his sixth save pitching the ninth inning with one strikeout and one walk.
The Bees had seven hits in the game. Bonilla and Fontaine both went 2-4 with a run scored and an RBI. They were the only Bees with multiple hits.
