Boise Hawks News Release
BOISE, Idaho - Clubbing a season-high four home runs, the Boise Hawks rolled to their highest scoring outburst of the 2012 season, defeating the Eugene Emeralds, 14-11, at Memorial Stadium.
It marked the first time since the 2007 season that the Hawks hit four homers in one game, as Boise claimed the series from the Ems.
Back-to-back homers from Marco Hernandez and Jeimer Candelario in the first staked Boise to a 2-0 lead. A Goose Kallunki RBI single in the second got the Emeralds within a run, but a solo homer from Shawon Dunston Jr. in the bottom of the inning extended the lead to 3-1.
A two-run homer by Gioskar Amaya in the sixth gave the Hawks an 8-3 lead, a margin that surged to 14-5 in the eighth after a two-run single from Willson Contreras and a two-run double by Chadd Krist. Eugene made it interesting in the ninth, as a grand slam homer by Brian Adams was the big blow in a six-run inning that got the Ems within 14-11, however with the tying run at the plate, Bryce Shafer got Alexi Colon to pop up to end the game.
All nine Hawks starters had at least one hit - with Amaya, Hernandez, Candelario, Contreras, Dunston, and Stephen Bruno all recording two hits. Willengton Cruz picked up the win, going five innings, allowing three runs on eight hits, striking out two.
Eugene lost despite 18 hits, including a 4-for-5 night from Adams, including two homers and five RBI. Ronnie Richardson added three hits, including a double and triple.
The Hawks hit the road, heading to Spokane tomorrow night for a 7:35 p.m. - with Jose Arias meeting John Kukuruda.
NOTES - The last time the Hawks scored six runs in a inning was one year ago - plating six in an inning against the Tri-City Dust Devils on June 24, 2011...the last time the Hawks hit four homers in a game was July 17, 2007 - when Billy Moss, Marquez Smith, Tony Thomas, and Jonathan Wyatt all hit homers at Everett.
