Rockford, IL-The Rockford RiverHawks (14-12) defeated the Richmond Roosters 2-1 for their sixth straight victory in front of 3,028 fans at Marinelli Field. Josh Tomsu (1-1) threw six shutout innings and Justin Dowdy collected his sixth save on the season. The RiverHawks scored in the first inning on a groundout by Richard Austin that scored Doug Schutt. They struck again in the eighth inning on a Dave Bernstine RBI single. Richmond (14-11) rallied in the ninth but came up short, stranding a runner on second to end the game. Aaron Phillips (0-1) picked up the loss for Richmond; he lasted 6.1 innings, scattering eight hits, and allowing one run. Jose Sandoval Jr. went 2-for-4 for Richmond in the loss.
Tomorrow night, the King himself will be back in town for Family Night. Elvis will be at Marinelli thanks to Fox-39 and WQFL beginning at 6:05 p.m. Rockford will be looking to sweep Richmond for their seventh straight victory. Scott Sobkowiak (2-4) will take the mound for Rockford against Chris Spigner (5-0) of Richmond. The team will then travel to Mid-Missouri for a three-game set. Midwest Championship Wrestling will be at Marinelli Field on July 12. The action starts at 7:00 p.m., with gates opening at 6:00. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased by calling the RiverHawks at 964-BALL.
The Rockford RiverHawks are hosting a Los Lobos concert in the Marinelli Field parking lot on Sunday, July 27. Gates open at 12:00 p.m. and the concert begins at 1:00 p.m. People who have tickets to the concert will get into the game for free and concessions will be open. Tickets are on sale now.
