Rockford RiverHawks News Release
Rockford, IL-The Rockford RiverHawks (23-20) bullpen inherited a 4-0 lead and turned it into a 6-4 defeat at the hands of Cook County. Justin Dowdy was lights out in his first start for Rockford as he went six innings, allowing only one hit, and striking out six. Manager Bob Koopmann then turned it over to his bullpen and the Cook County Cheetahs offense responded. The Rockford bullpen gave up six runs on six hits and walked four. Cook County trailed 4-2 going into the ninth inning. Pinch-hitter Adam O'Reel singled off Josh Latimer to lead off the inning, two hits and two walks later, the game was tied. Cook County took the lead in the tenth, when Sean Bishofberger hit a two-run double off RiverHawks closer Joe Kjose (1-4). Casey DeGroote went 2-for-3 to lead the RiverHawks offense.
Rockford will now embark on a three-game road trip to River City. All-Star Jason Shelley (6-1) will take the mound for Rockford. Before returning home to face Kenosha beginning on July 18 at 7:05 p.m., the Frontier League All-Star Game will take place at GMC Stadium in Sauget, Illinois. Midwest Championship Wrestling will be at Marinelli Field tomorrow. The action starts at 7:00 p.m., with gates opening at 6:00. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased by calling the RiverHawks at 964-BALL.
The Rockford RiverHawks are hosting a Los Lobos concert in the Marinelli Field parking lot on Sunday, July 27. Gates open at 12:00 p.m. and the concert begins at 1:00 p.m. People who have tickets to the concert will get into the game for free and concessions will be open. Tickets are on sale now.
