Boise Hawks News Release
The Boise Hawks (12-9) won their 4th straight game with a 6-3 win over the Eugene Emeralds (7-14). Boise scored four times in the 5th to take the 6-3 lead and never looked back.
The Hawks scored the first run of the game in the first inning when Luis Castro had an RBI single scoring Matt Hearn to give Boise a 1-0 advantage.
Boise starter Pearson McMahan went six innings allowing three runs and picking up his 2nd win of the year, but all of his runs allowed came in the 4th inning for the Emeralds. Christopher Morel doubled to score Luis Diaz making it 1-1. Then, McMahan threw a wild pitch and Nelson Velazquez scored from third to make it 2-1 Eugene.
Tyler Durna hit a sharp ground ball to Luis Castro and Christopher Morel scored from 3rd to give Eugene a 3-1 advantage after three.
The Hawks responded in a big way. First it was Luis Castro with an RBI single in the 4th to make it just a 3-2 Eugene lead. The Hawks then came up in the 5th inning and Luke Morgan singled home both Danny Edgeworth and Luis Castro to make it a 4-3 Hawks lead.
Daniel Jipping added a two-run bomb to centerfield, his 3rd home run of the year, making it a 6-3 Boise.
In the 7th, Matt Hearn singled in Cade Harris and Boise took a 7-3 lead. Boise added another run in the 8th, with the bases load, Cade Harris walked and the Hawks had an 8-3 advantage.
Boise's Jefry Valdez threw a perfect 7th and 8th inning for the Hawks.
Eugene came back in the 9th by scoring two runs, both unearned, off of PJ Poulin. It was a 2-RBI double for Luis Vazquez to bring the score to 8-5 but that's all the runs Eugene could get for the night. The Hawks would hang on for the 8-5 victory.
Casey Ryan ends up being the losing pitcher for Eugene.
