Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Three early goals gave the Waterloo Black Hawks enough offense to claim Game Two in a best-of-three, first round Clark Cup playoff series against the Tri-City Storm Tuesday at Young Arena.
The win allowed Waterloo to advance from the first round two-games-to-none following a 6-4 victory in Game One Monday. The quick start may have provided the means to victory, but in the end left little margin for error.
The Black Hawks took control 1:39 into the first period. With Tony Cameranesi and Jamie Hill mining a puck behind the Storm goal, it came to the front of the net, where Aaron Pearce put it through the pads of Adam Wilcox. During four-on-four time less than three minute later, Taylor Cammarata batted the rebound of an Alex Barron shot out of midair and into the net. Waterloo added one more goal at 10:19, near the end of a power play, on Mark Naclerio's low shot from the right wing circle.
Kenny Brooks put the Storm on the board with the lone goal of the second period at the 33 second mark, four seconds after a power play had ended. Brooks' shot found the top corner of the net over the shoulder of Stephon Williams.
Brooks struck again 2:17 into the third period, tightening the screws in a suddenly one-goal game. The period moved quickly and was played penalty free, with the Storm pulling Wilcox as 1:34 remained in regulation. Waterloo could not find the empty net, but denied a number of Storm chances as the closing seconds wound off the clock. Williams made 24 saves for the victory.
The Hawks move on to face the Omaha Lancers in a best-of-five second round series which begins this weekend. Game One is slated for Friday evening at Omaha Civic Auditorium.
