
U.S. National Under-17 Team Falls to Dubuque, 7-3, in Game 2 of USHL Clark Cup Playoffs

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Hunter Miska (North Branch, Minn.) made 28 saves, but the U.S. Men's National Under-17 Team fell to the Dubuque Fighting Saints, 7-3, here tonight at the Mystique Ice Center in Game Two of the United States Hockey League Clark Cup Playoffs. Dubuque won the best-of-three series, 2-0.
"We dug ourselves in too big of a hole tonight," said Don Granato, head coach of the U.S. Men's National Under-17 Team. "We battled hard, but were unable to get back in it."
Dubuque got on the board first at 3:30 before Miles Koules (Los Angeles, Calif.) crashed the net and tied the game at 5:01. The Fighting Saints tallied back-to-back goals to take a 3-1 lead, but Tyler Motte (St. Clair, Mich.) brought the U.S. back within one goal with a shorthanded tally at 18:46.
Dubuque tallied the only goal of the second period, while shorthanded, to open a 4-2 lead heading into the final frame. Team USA surrendered two more goals before Tyler Kelleher (Longmeadow, Mass.) got on the board for the U.S. at 14:33 to make it 6-3. But Dubuque scored an empty-net goal with 25 seconds remaining to secure the series' victory.
NOTES: This is the second consecutive year that Team USA has qualified for a playoff position ... The U.S. went 0-for-2 on the power play, while Dubuque went 1-for-6 ...
