Portland Winterhawks News Release
Moose Jaw, Sask. - The Winterhawks fought back twice to tie the game, but the Moose Jaw Warriors scored twice in the third period to take a late lead and win the 2024 WHL Championship presented by Nutrien by a 4-2 final.
Moose Jaw again opened the scoring in Game 4 on a Martin Rysavy power-play strike midway through the first, but Portland roared back in the second. First, Kyle Chyzowski leveled the score at 14:31 as he deflected a Gabe Klassen feed in front for the Hawks' opening tally. When Matthew Savoie responded 1:06 later to restore Moose Jaw's lead, it was Marcus Nguyen who netted a key tying tally for the second straight contest. The speedy winger made it 2-2 through 40 minutes as he finished off a perfect Nate Danielson feed through the crease.
With the game tied at two, a tense final frame ensued. Both teams traded chances - including a Josh Davies laser off the post - but it was Schuurman once again playing hero with a top-shelf tuck 14:07 into the third. Rysavy then wrapped up the contest with a late empty-netter.
