Boise Hawks News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - Dan Vogelbach hit a two-run homer and Rock Shoulders added a grand slam, helping the Boise Hawks to an 8-6 victory over the Everett Aquasox, before 2,838 fans at Everett Memorial Stadium.

The win pushed the Hawks to 10-5 in the second half of the Northwest League season, remaining three games ahead of both Spokane and Tri-City in the East Division race.

The Hawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first three innings, as Jeimer Candelario lined an RBI single in the first, and Vogelbach hooked his home run in the third around the foul pole in right. Everett would close to 3-2 in the bottom of the third, as Janelfry Zorrilla homered and Mike Zunino lined an RBI single.

In the fifth Gioskar Amaya walked and Stephen Bruno was hit by a pitch. After a flyout, Vogelbach hit a double play ball to third, but Taylor Ard bobbled the ball and everyone was safe. The miscue loomed large, as Shoulder crushed the next offering by starter Victor Sanchez over the scoreboard and over the protective netting in right-center for the Hawks second grand slam of the season, extending the lead to 7-2.

Everett would get within 8-6 in the eighth on an Ard two-run homer and had runners at first and second with two out in the ninth, but Eddie Orozco got Zunino to hit a one-hop shot to shortstop Marco Hernandez, who made a diving stop, flipped to Amaya at second for the final out.

Jose Arias got his third win of the season, striking out a season-high six in five innings of work, with Orozco picking up his third save. Willson Contreras went 2-for-4 in the win for Boise.

Sanchez took the loss, allowing seven runs in five innings, with Zunino, Alfredo Morales, and Zorrilla each recording two hits.

Game 4 of the series is tomorrow night at 8:05 p.m. (MT), with Tayler Scott meeting Steve Ewing.
