Everett AquaSox News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - The AquaSox were defeated by the Boise Hawks, 8-6, Wednesday night at Everett Memorial Stadium. The Frogs narrowed Boise's lead to just two runs in the eighth and threatened in the ninth with two runners on, but ultimately fell short.

Taylor Ard extended his hitting streak to 14 games when he crushed a two-run homer to left field to pull the Sox within two. The home run was Ard's eighth of the year to join a three-way tie for the league lead alongside teammates Patrick Kivlehan and Mike Zunino.

Sox starter Victor Sanchez was roughed up in his five innings of work. The 255-pound right-hander allowed seven runs (five earned) on five hits and four walks to go along with four strikeouts.

Boise would jump out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third after a home run by first baseman Dan Vogelbach; his second longball of the series.

Center fielder Janelfry Zorrilla led off the home half of the third with a shot over the center field wall to give the Frogs their first run of the game. Later in the inning, Brock Hebert worked a walk with two outs, stole second base and scored on an opposite-field single by Zunino to pull the Sox within one run,

With the bases loaded in the top of the fifth, Boise left fielder Rock Shoulders took Sanchez deep for a grand slam to increase the Hawks lead, 7-2.

The Sox would gain a run in the bottom of the fifth when Ketel Marte was tagged out in a run-down between first and second for the third out of the inning, but the length of the chase gave Zorrilla enough time to score from third. Both clubs would score in the sixth and Boise carried an 8-4 lead until Ard's two-run blast in the seventh.

The AquaSox (6-9, 34-19) will look to rebound Thursday with the fourth game of the five-game set against the Hawks (10-5, 23-30). Southpaw Steven Ewing (2-1, 6.07 ERA) gets the start, and will be opposed by righty Tayler Scott (4-1, 1.90 ERA) of Boise.
