Hawks Deal for Defenseman
January 4, 2022 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa - The Waterloo Black Hawks and Omaha Lancers swapped the youngest defenseman on each clubs' roster Tuesday; rookie Ben Robertson comes to the Cedar Valley, while Tucker Shedd will continue his first USHL season in eastern Nebraska.
Robertson has skated in 20 of the Lancers' 25 games. He has one assist; it came in Omaha's 2-1 shootout win against the Hawks on October 15th. Robertson also dressed for two USHL games last season as a member of the U.S. National Team Development Program Under-17s and produced an assist versus the Muskegon Lumberjacks on January 23rd. The 17-year-old from northern Virginia is committed to Cornell.
"We are extremely excited to add Ben to our group in Waterloo," said Black Hawks General Manager Bryn Chyzyk. "Ben is a young player that thinks the game at an incredibly high level. We feel like he will make an impact both in the short term and further down the line for our organization.
"It is hard to see Tucker leave our organization. He is a first-class young man, the coaching staff appreciated his willingness to learn, and we wish him all the best in Omaha."
Shedd had two goals and two assists in 21 appearances for Waterloo.
Robertson could make his Black Hawks debut as early as Friday evening when the team visits the Sioux Falls Stampede at 7:05 p.m.
