Portland Winterhawks News Release
Everett, Wash. - The Winterhawks rode a dominant second period and a 27-save shutout from Jan Špunar to a 5-0 victory over the Everett Silvertips in Game 4 of their second-round series, completing their second straight sweep this postseason.
The Winterhawks have now advanced to the Western Conference Championship for the first time since 2015. Portland has also won eight consecutive playoff games for the first time in Club history.
James Stefan broke the ice five minutes into the middle frame as he finished off a Tyson Yaremko centering feed. Six minutes later, Tyson Jugnauth doubled the lead with a laser from the left circle, set up by some deft stickhandling by Carter Sotheran. With all the momentum, Portland added a third goal through Ryder Thompson at 15:07 as the ever-reliable blueliner tapped home a Stefan rebound at the side of the net. Jack O'Brien and Kyle Chyzowski chipped in third-period tallies - O'Brien's on a slick breakaway move and Chyzowski's on a net-front tap-in on the power play - to wrap up a dominant showing in a decisive tilt.
The Winterhawks will face the #1 seed Prince George Cougars in the Western Conference Championship beginning in Prince George. A full schedule will be released in the coming days.
