Havoc Win One Of Three On Weekend Road Trip

HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Huntsville Havoc rebounded on Sunday for a 6-2 win over the Columbus Cottonmouths after dropping two road decisions, 2-0 to Knoxville on Friday and 4-1 to the Mississippi RiverKings on Saturday.

Friday, November 15 - Huntsville 0, Knoxville 2

KNOXVILLE, TN - Cody Dion scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Knoxville Ice Bears held off the challenges of the Huntsville Havoc in a tough 2-0 win.

Knoxville took over the lead for good with a goal by Dion at 1:23 in the first period. Jon Higgins assisted on the tally.

The Ice Bears were boosted by Bryan Hince, who turned in a shutout with 32 saves. Hince certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.8 entering the contest.

Knoxville was led by Dion, who tallied one goal.

The Ice Bears excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Knoxville failed to reach its usual level of shot production, putting 17 pucks on goal after averaging 26.8 shots per game this season. The Ice Bears featured an improved defense during the game. Knoxville gives up 2.8 goals on average per game.

Mark Van Vliet also scored for Knoxville. More assists for Knoxville came via Phil Bronner, who had one.

Huntsville did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Havoc put an average of 4.4 pucks into the net per game. The Ice Bears were unable to stop Huntsville from sending pucks towards the net, and the Havoc eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

Huntsville was led by Josh Harris, who took five shots.

Knoxville totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and had no power play opportunities. The Ice Bears ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Francis Drolet was ejected from the game. Jesse Kallechy took the loss and made nine saves before being replaced by Kevin Genoe who made six saves. The Havoc incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.

Saturday, November 16 - Huntsville 1, Mississippi RiverKings 4

SOUTHAVEN, MS - Dan McWhinney stood on his head and made 36 saves to lead Mississippi RiverKings to a 4-1 victory over the Huntsville Havoc.

Mississippi RiverKings was led by Charles LaChance, who tallied one goal. LaChance scored 1:34 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Mississippi RiverKings. Matt Harrington picked up the assist.

Mississippi RiverKings put 34 shots on net during the contest, more than the 30.9 it averages per game.

Mississippi RiverKings additionally got points from Todd Hosmer, who also finished with two goals and one assist to lead the team in points and Leo Thomas, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Mississippi RiverKings were Mike Grace, Matt Whitehead, and Andrew Randazzo, who contributed one a piece.

Huntsville did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Havoc put an average of 4.0 pucks into the net per game. Huntsville's offense rang up 37 shots on Mississippi RiverKings' net.

The Havoc totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play.

Sunday, November 17 - Huntsville 6, Columbus 2

COUMBUS, GA - The Huntsville Havoc had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-2 win over the Columbus Cottonmouths.

Mike Gurtler was all over the ice for Huntsville, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Gurtler scored on the power play 7:00 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Huntsville. A holding penalty on Kyle Johnson had put the Havoc on the power play. Rob Florentino assisted on the tally.

Huntsville pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 31 penalty minutes.

Huntsville also got points from Josh Harris, who also had one goal and two assists. Huntsville also had goals scored by Justin Fox, who had two and Ray Ortiz and Nick Lazorko, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Dominic Osman and Paul Kurceba, who each chipped in one.

Columbus was often in penalty trouble, totaling nine minors and three majors for 33 minutes in penalty time. The Cottonmouths surpassed its season average of 29.0 penalty minutes per game.

Columbus was helped by Matt Gingera, who racked up one goal. Gingera scored 11:44 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Huntsville. Ian McNulty picked up the assist. Jordan Braid also scored for Columbus. In addition, Columbus received assists from Jason Gray and Jordan Draper, who contributed one a piece.

Jesse Kallechy rejected 26 shots on goal for the Havoc. Huntsville registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. The Cottonmouths' Andrew Loewen stopped 24 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Columbus registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
