Havoc Takes Haun With First Pick

HUNTSVILLE, AL - Huntsville Havoc Head Coach, Eric Soltys, chose Jacksonville Barracudas goaltender Tim Haun, forward Frank Furdero and defenseman Billy Rochefort and in the SPHL dispersal draft this afternoon.

"We picked up three guys that were in the SPHL Championship Series last season," Soltys said. "They know what it takes to win and what kind of commitment it takes. We are definitely excited about adding them to the mix."

Haun (5-11, 180) led the SPHL with a 2.45 goals against average and a 92.0 save percentage. He finished 13-3-3 and had one shutout in 23 games played. He was 4-2 with a 2.83 goals against average in the playoffs. He was named First-Team All-SPHL. The Solsgirth, Manitoba native was playing in his rookie season after playing two seasons at Augustana University.

"Haun led the league in goals against and had a great rookie campaign so that gives us options in net," Soltys said. "We took him first overall because we thought he was the best overall player available."

Furdero (5-8, 170) played in 16 games and scored eight goals and recorded 10 assists. He also added four goals and nine assists in eight playoff games. The Livonia, Michigan native played in 27 games in the MAHL last season and scored 28 goals and recorded 33 assists. He also played in 118 career junior games and scored 53 goals and recorded 95 assists.

"Furdero is a speedy forward that brings a lot of energy to the ice," Soltys said. "He should fit in great with our style of play and he has a tremendous work ethic and attitude."

Rochefort (6-3, 220) has played in 283 career games in the UHL and SPHL. The stay-at-home defenseman has scored three goals and recorded 33 assists. A native of Stratford, Ontario, Rochefort also played in 92 career junior games scoring two goals and recording five assists.

"Billy gives us a solid veteran on the blueline," said Soltys. "He will be needed to help guide and young team on and off the ice."

The draft pool included all 18 players on the Barracudas playoff roster. The Barracudas have requested a one-year suspension of operations from the SPHL.

Soltys also announced that former Barracuda forward Patrick Doherty has signed a 2008-09 tryout agreement with the Havoc. He has played in 141 career games in the SPHL with the Pee Dee Cyclones and the Barracudas and scored 62 goals and recorded 54 assists.

Also signing tryout agreements were Samuel Bergeron and Jean-Philippe Roy-Vallieres. Bergeron has played in 106 career junior games in the QMJHL and the QJAHL. He has scored 69 goals and recorded 89 assists for 158 total points. Ray-Vallieres played in 103 games and scored 52 goals and recorded 57 assists for 109 total points.

The Havoc also announced that Dan Buccella, Craig Bushey, Matt Carmichael, Matt Curley, Tim Hockley, Jonathan Lounsbury, Bill McCreary, Beau McLaughlin, Mike O'Sullivan, James Patterson, Bobby Siers, Jeff Valdes and Edan Welch have all signed tryout agreements for next season.

"It's great to see some of the guys want to continue playing in Huntsville," Soltys said. "It says a lot for the fans and the city that they enjoy it here, however, the best 18 players, no matter who they are or where they're from; will make this team."

A Meet-the-Coach Party will be held on Monday, May 12th at 5:00pm in Parlor C at the Von Braun Center. Havoc Sponsor Domino's will provide pizza and appetizers while the VBC will have a cash bar. This event is open to the public.
