Havoc Take Two At Home, Drop One On Road

HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Huntsville Havoc took a pair of home games beating the Knoxville Ice Bears 4-2 on Friday and the Peoria Rivermen 5-2 on Saturday. The Havoc dropped a 4-2 decision in Knoxville on Thursday.

Thursday, December 26 - Huntsville 2, Knoxville 4

KNOXVILLE, TN - Phil Bronner scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Knoxville Ice Bears held off the challenges of the Huntsville Havoc in a tough 4-2 win.

Knoxville took over the lead for good with a goal by Bronner at 19:14 in the first period. Brady Vandenberk picked up the assist.

The Ice Bears' penalty kill excelled, as Knoxville gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

The Ice Bears were sparked by Bronner, who registered one goal.

Knoxville relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Eric Satim, Jon Higgins and Bronner took 13 of the team's 24 shots.

Knoxville also got points from Cody Dion, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Vandenberk, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Francis Drolet, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Knoxville received assists from Mark Van Vliet, Ben Power, and Jason Price, who contributed one a piece.

Huntsville relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Nick Lazorko, Mike Gurtler and Justin Fox took 14 of the team's 27 shots.

Justin Cseter also scored for Huntsville. Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Dominic Osman and Matt Singleton, who each chipped in one.

The Ice Bears' Bryan Hince stopped 25 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Knoxville incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Kevin Genoe recorded 20 saves for the Havoc. Huntsville incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.

Friday, December 27 - Knoxville 2, Huntsville 4

HUNTSVILLE, AL - The game between the Huntsville Havoc and the Knoxville Ice Bears was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Huntsville emerged with a 4-2 win.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Nick Lazorko's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

The Havoc were led by Josh Harris, who tallied one goal and one assist. Harris scored 16:03 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Huntsville. Kyle Frieday provided the assist.

Huntsville put 33 shots on net during the contest, more than the 27.7 it averages per game.

Huntsville also got points from Justin Cseter, who also had one goal and one assist and Lazorko, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Justin Fox also scored for Huntsville. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Corey Bellamy, who had one and Mike Gurtler, who had two.

Knoxville stifled the Havoc's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. With 36 shots on target during the contest, the Ice Bears exceeded the 29.1 shots they average per game this year.

Knoxville was helped by Brett Valliquette, who registered one goal. Valliquette scored 17:10 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Mark Van Vliet assisted on the tally. Knoxville also got a goal from Ben Souders as well. More assists for Knoxville came via Jon Higgins, who had one.

Jesse Kallechy rejected 34 shots on goal for Huntsville. The Havoc totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 0-for-4 on the power play. The Ice Bears' Cody Rosen stopped 29 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Knoxville totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play.

Saturday, December 28 - Peoria 2, Huntsville 5

HUNTSVILLE, AL - Nick Lazorko registered two points to lead the Huntsville Havoc to a 5-2 victory over the Peoria Rivermen.

Huntsville's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. The 36 shots that the Havoc put on net surpassed Huntsville's average of 29.3 shots per game this season.

Huntsville also got points from Leland Fidler, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Huntsville included Justin Cseter, Kyle Frieday, and Josh Harris, who scored one goal each. More assists for Huntsville came via Stuart Stefan, who had two and Dominic Osman, Ray Ortiz, Justin Fox, Scott Harff, and Paul Kurceba, who contributed one a piece.

Peoria averages 28.0 shots on goal per game, but only sent 19 pucks on net against the Havoc.

The Rivermen were helped by Nick Wheeler, who had one goal. Wheeler scored on the power play 18:53 into the first period to make the score 1-1. A boarding penalty on Sam Cannata had put Peoria on the power play. Cole Ruwe picked up the assist. Garrett Vermeersch also scored for Peoria. In addition, Peoria received assists from Adam Hartley and Steve Morra, who each chipped in one.

Jesse Kallechy recorded 17 saves for Huntsville. The Havoc incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Eric Levine took the loss and made 18 saves before being replaced by Kyle Rank who made 13 saves. The Rivermen incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
