HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Huntsville Havoc have now won five of their last six games after taking three home games this past week with wins over Louisiana, Columbus and the Mississippi Surge.
Wednesday, December 26 - Louisiana 4, Huntsville 5
HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Huntsville Havoc came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Louisiana IceGators, but did just enough to escape with a 5-4 victory.
Huntsville led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Havoc's Brett Liscomb's scored at 10:14 in the second period to put Huntsville up 3-0.
The Havoc got the win thanks to a great game by Kyle Laughlin, who had one goal and two assists. Laughlin scored 6:17 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Huntsville.
Huntsville outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Havoc average 2.4 goals per contest. By firing 37 shots on goal, Huntsville exceeded the 22.3 shots it averages per game this year.
Huntsville also got points from Colin Reddin, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Liscomb, who also tallied two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Huntsville also got a goal from Chapen LeBlond as well. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Bryant Doerrsam, Sam Cannata, and Ian Boots, who contributed one a piece.
Louisiana stifled the Havoc's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The IceGators put 31 shots on net during the contest, more than the 24.9 they average per game.
Louisiana was helped by Robert Short, who registered three goals. Marc Andre Carre also scored for Louisiana. Other players who recorded assists for Louisiana were Matthew Robertson, who had two, Denny Kearney, who had three, and Tyler Lyon, Eric Tallent, and Kyle OKane, who each chipped in one.
Dan McWhinney rejected 27 shots on goal for Huntsville. The Havoc incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Jesse Kallechy recorded 32 saves for the IceGators. Louisiana incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
Friday, December 28 - Mississippi Surge 2, Huntsville 5
HUNTSVILLE, AL - Chapen LeBlond grabbed two points to lead the Huntsville Havoc to a 5-2 victory over Mississippi Surge.
Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 15:03 into the third period. Seven fighting penalties were dished out along with eight game misconducts.
Huntsville racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with four minors and five majors for 83 minutes in penalty time. The Havoc had been averaging 25.0 minutes in penalties per game. Huntsville's offense was clicking better than usual and put 27 shots on goal during the game, better than the 22.6 shots per game it averages. The Havoc surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Huntsville averages 2.4 goals per game.
Huntsville also got points from Bryant Doerrsam, who also had one goal and one assist, Stuart Stefan, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Justin Fox, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Brett Liscomb also scored for Huntsville. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Colin Reddin, who had two and Matt Smyth, Leland Fidler, and Kyle Laughlin, who each chipped in one.
By firing 31 shots on goal, Mississippi Surge exceeded the 25.3 shots it averages per game this year.
Mississippi Surge was helped by Jarkko Leppanen, who registered one goal. Leppanen scored on the power play 16:38 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Huntsville. Mississippi Surge earned a power play opportunity when Bill Baker was put in the box for high sticking. Tommy Lange provided the assist. Mississippi Surge also got a goal from Jeff Grant as well. Other players who recorded assists for Mississippi Surge were Payden Benning, Adam Stuart, and Branden Kosolofsky, who contributed one a piece.
The Havoc's Dan McWhinney stopped 29 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Huntsville registered two goals on two power play opportunities. Team's Sam Cannata, Aaron McGill, LeBlond, Corey Fulton, and Baker were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Kiefer Smiley made 22 saves for Mississippi Surge on 27 shots. Mississippi Surge totaled 64 minutes in penalty time with two minors and four majors and went 1-for-4 on the power play. For Mississippi Surge, Anthony Collins, Kosolofsky, and Reid Edmondson were ejected from the contest.
Saturday, December 29 - Huntsville 2, Columbus 1 - OT
COLUMBUS, GA - The Huntsville Havoc's Ian Boots scored 4:05 into overtime to beat the Columbus Cottonmouths, 2-1 (OT).
Boots had a great game for Huntsville, netting two goals.
Columbus was stymied by the Havoc netminder Dan McWhinney, who stopped 29 shots during the victory. McWhinney managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.79 prior to the game.
Huntsville's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Columbus power plays. The Havoc relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Kyle Laughlin, Stuart Stefan and Colin Reddin took 20 of the team's 36 shots.
More assists for Huntsville came via Aaron McGill and Brett Liscomb, who each chipped in one.
With 30 shots on target during the contest, the Cottonmouths exceeded the 25.3 shots they average per game this year.
Columbus was led by Levi Lind, who scored the team's only goal. Lind scored 3:48 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Columbus. Bret Tyler provided the assist.
Huntsville incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Cottonmouths' Ian Vigier stopped 34 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Columbus incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
