Huntsville Havoc News Release

HUNTSVILLE, AL - Huntsville Havoc Head Coach Eric Soltys announced today that the team has signed former National Hockey League player Billy Tibbetts to a three-game tryout.

The Boston, Massachusetts native played in 82 games in the NHL with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers. In those 82 NHL games he scored two goals and recorded eight assists to go along with 269 penalty minutes.

Tibbetts has played in 387 career games in the NHL, ECHL, AHL and Finnish Elite Leagues. He recorded 124 goals and 184 assists, and amassed 2,074 penalty minutes, during his professional hockey career.

"Billy has made some mistakes in the past, but I've known him since we were kids," Soltys said. "He just wants to play hockey and help some of the younger players not make the same mistakes he has made. Plus, he is still a tremendous hockey player and should help us greatly down the stretch."

Forward Justin Rohr will miss the final game of his three-game tryout tonight. He returned home this week after his grandmother passed away Sunday. He is expected to be back in uniform Friday night.

A three-game weekend schedule begins tonight as the Havoc play the Cottonmouths in Columbus, GA, then return to CenturyTel Ice at the VBC to face the Richmond Renegades at 8:30PM Friday and Fayetteville FireAntz at 7:30PM on Saturday. Saturday night is Kids Cap Night, when the first 1,000 fans, 13 and younger, receive a free Havoc hat, courtesy of Coca-Cola and WAFF48.
