Havoc Beat Rivermen for 2nd Time

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Peoria Rivermen mustered only one second-period score in a physical game and lost 3-1 on Saturday night to the Huntsville Havoc at Von Braun Center.

The Havoc capitalized on a 2-on-1 rush with 8:26 showing on the first period clock when Jacob Johnstone scored from the slot on a feed from Drew Akins for the only tally before the intermission.

The Rivermen found the equalizer on a power play with 14:44 left in the middle stanza when Josh Harris extended his point streak to seven games by settling the puck in the left circle and wristing a winner glove-side.

Huntsville grabbed the lead with a turnaround snipe from the left circle by Luke Greiner with 5:16 left after carrying the puck from behind the Peoria net. Jarred Mohr sealed the victory with an empty net goal with 8 seconds remaining.

Kevin Genoe took the win with 37 saves while Kyle Rank sustained the loss with 28 stops. The Rivermen were 1-for-4 on power plays while the Havoc did not convert either of their two opportunities.

The Rivermen maintain a seven-point lead over Columbus and Mississippi at the top of the Southern Professional Hockey League standings with a record of 33-16-3 for 69 points. The Havoc improve to 8-33-7 for 23 points with their second win and fifth point of the season from the Rivermen.

The Rivermen return to action this Friday and Saturday in suburban Memphis to face the Mississippi RiverKings. Face-off on Friday is at 7:05 p.m. with a 6:05 p.m. start scheduled for Saturday.
