Belisle Lifts Columbus over Pensacola, 6-3

The Columbus Cottonmouths relied on the scoring touch of Louis Belisle, who netted two goals, to beat the Pensacola Ice Flyers, 6-3.

Belisle scored at 9:54 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Columbus and again while 6:47 into the third to make the score 4-2 Columbus.

Columbus averages 30.3 shots on goal per game, but only sent 24 pucks on net against Pensacola. The Cottonmouths found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Columbus has scored at the pace of 3.2 goals per game during the current campaign. The Cottonmouths took advantage of the Ice Flyers' penalties, tallying three goals off of five power play opportunities. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Columbus additionally got points from Matt Gingera, who also tallied two goals and one assist to lead the team in points and Shawn Bates, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Bryce Williamson also scored for Columbus. In addition, Columbus received assists from Ben OQuinn, who had two and Andy Willigar, Nick Curry, Mike Switzer, and Neilsson Arcibal, who contributed one each.

Pensacola put 28 shots on net during the contest, more than the 23.4 it averages per game.

The Ice Flyers were helped by Nick Larson, who had one goal and one assist. Larson scored on the power play 15:35 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Pensacola earned a power play opportunity when Patrick McCadden was put in the box for tripping. Adam Pawlick picked up the assist. Pensacola also got points from Steve Bergin, who also registered one goal and one assist. Pensacola also got a goal from Brett Lutes as well. More assists for Pensacola came via Nick McParland and Shaun Arvai, who each chipped in one.

Columbus' Shannon Szabados stopped 25 shots out of the 28 that he faced. The Cottonmouths ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. Max Strang made 18 saves for the Ice Flyers on 23 shots. Pensacola totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play.
