Omaha Lancers News Release
The Lancers rolled to a 7-2 victory over the Tri-City Storm on Friday, February 15th in Kearney, Nebraska, a win that gave the team its eighth straight victory and also gave coach Mike Hastings career win number 517, tying him with Bob Ferguson for the most USHL career coaching victories. The Lancers were also able to extend their first place lead in the West Division to 14 points and their overall league lead to two points over Indiana.
Several players contributed to the victory, including a three-point night from Ben Arnt, scoring the eventual game-winning goal and adding two assists, all in the first period. Joe Diamond and Jake Hauswirth each scored a pair of goals, including a power play goal apiece, and Chris Connolly scored a shorthanded goal and a power play goal in the win.
Other point producers in the win included Patrick Wiercioch with three assists, and Will O'Neill and Chris Hepp with two assists each.
However, it was Tri-City that opened the scoring just 1:06 into the contest on a goal from Mike Cichy. From there, the Lancers scored the next five goals before the Storm scored again to cut the deficit to 5-2.
Chris Connolly's power play goal and Joe Diamond's tally with less than two minutes remaining provided the final margin.
Four of the Lancers' seven goals came on the power play in six opportunites, while Tri-City failed to score in five power play chances and Connolly's first goal of the night came shorthanded on the Storm's final power play opportunity of the evening.
Meanwhile, goaltender Shane Madolora stopped 29 shots in posting his 10th win of the season (10-3-1). Losing goaltender Aaron Rock of Tri-City made 28 saves in seeing his record fall to 8-14-2.
Omaha will look to keep the win streak going and provide coach Mike Hastings with a record-setting 518th career coaching victory, when the Lancers play at Sioux Falls on Saturday, February 16th, beginning at 7:05 PM. Broadcast coverage of the game will begin at 6:45 on News Talk 1420, KOTK with Lancer broadcaster Bob Bakken providing the play-by-play.
