Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa - Waterloo Black Hawks rookie forward Ryan Drkulec will attend Harvard University after completing his junior hockey career, the Waterloo Black Hawks announced on Thursday.
The decision caps what has been quite a seven-day sequence for the forward from Mansfield, Texas. Last Friday and Saturday, Drkulec had goals during a pair of Black Hawks road wins. That included the game-winning overtime score versus the Green Bay Gamblers on Saturday. Monday, NHL Central Scouting confirmed Drkulec's preseason grade as a 2019 NHL Draft "C" prospect in the service's November Watch List.
"He's always finding a way to get on the scoresheet," said Black Hawks Head Coach P.K. O'Handley about the 18-year-old, adding, "You can't teach that knack. He puts himself in positions in the offensive zone where the puck finds him, and usually in a spot where's he's got an opportunity to score."
Through 15 games, Drkulec has five goals and five assists. Six of those points have been recorded in the last six games. Nine of ten have been scored at even strength. Drkulec also owns a +3 plus/minus differential, which currently ties for fifth among the United States Hockey League's rookie forwards.
Since 2013/14, Hawks alumni have had a presence on the Crimson roster, beginning with Victor Newell. Jake Horton completed his time with the program last spring. Jack Drury is currently a Harvard freshman after spending the last two seasons in Waterloo.
Sixteen current 2018/19 Black Hawks now have college commitments.
The Black Hawks play home games on Friday and Saturday respectively versus the Tri-City Storm and Lincoln Stars. For tickets or additional game details, call the Domino's Black Hawks Box Office at (319) 291-7680.
