July 15, 2023 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Hartford Athletic News Release
Hartford Athletic found two equalizers, but give up a stoppage-time goal to lose sixth straight.
In the 13th minute, Tulsa captain Eric Bird knocked a long through-ball to the club's leading goal-scorer Marcus Epps. Epps outran Hartford's defenders and managed to get the ball past goalkeeper Richard Sánchez.
Hartford tied the match quickly, though. After a series of corner kicks that had nothing come of them, Hartford was awarded a throw-in in the 24th minute. Defender Matt Sheldon threw the ball into the box, Elvis Amoh outjumped the opposition and headed the ball into the far corner. The game was knotted at one, but not for long. Ten minutes later, Tulsa forward Moses Dyer won possession in the attacking third. Falling away from the goal, he crossed the ball in front of the Hartford net. Phillip Goodrum got a clean head on the ball, pushing it into the net. The ball fell just out of reach of the Richard Sánchez's outstretched arms. Tulsa took the 2-1 lead into the half.
Tulsa came out of the half aggressively, generating a chance just minutes in. Phillip Goodrum crossed the ball onto Marcus Epps' head, the shot went straight into Sánchez's arms.
In the 60th minute, defender Edgardo Rito made a run up the right sideline and crossed it into the Tulsa box. Before a Hartford forward could get a cleat on it, Tulsa defender Rashid Tetteh knocked the ball into his own net, tying the game at two a piece.
After 35 minutes of back and forth play, Tulsa broke the tie. Collin Fernandez put the ball onto the foot of Phillip Goodrum for Goodrum's second goal of the night. Tulsa snagged the lead in stoppage time, extending their win streak to four in a row.
Hartford's winless streak is now at nine games, including six consecutive losses. The club remains on the road for two more matches before heading back home, first at Las Vegas and then San Antonio.
