New York Boulders News Release
(QUEBEC CITY, Quebec) - The Rockland Boulders won the final game of a three-game set with the Quebec Capitales by a score of 5-0. After dropping the first two games of the series, Stephen Harrold (3-1) came out and pitched a complete game shutout to end the skid.
Harrold struck out five and only surrendered six hits in the start, which improved his Can-Am League leading ERA to 1.75 on the year. The Boulders have now won six of the seven games that Harrold has started this season, including the last four.
The Boulders offense came out hot to start the game by putting up two runs in the first inning. Jerod Edmondson knocked in the first run of the game on an RBI single. Edmondson has had the Capitales number all year and is hitting .373 with eight RBI after going 2-for-5 at the plate tonight with an RBI.
Stephen Cardullo would bring home Edmondson later in the inning giving the Boulders a 2-0 lead. Cardullo also hit a two-run homer in the seventh to put the game away, and it also gave him 3 RBI on the night.
The only other run of the game came off an RBI single by Ryan Stovall in the fifth inning. Antone DeJesus set the table with a leadoff double and came around to score on Stovall's hit. Stovall also has had success against Quebec this year and leads the team with 20 hits against the Capitales.
Quebec's knuckleballer Zach Staniewicz (4-5) struck out a season high seven batters in his eighth start of the year. However Staniewicz also gave up eight hits and five runs over seven innings, which were also all season highs for the righty.
Quebec's Asif Shah was the lone Capitale batter to have a multi-hit game and improved his Can-Am leading batting average to .372. Shah went 2-for-3 with a double in the second inning.
The Boulders will return home tomorrow night and open up a three-game series with Trois-Rivieres at 7:00 p.m. at Provident Bank Park. Saturday's game is "Irish Heritage Night" and the gates will open three hours early at 3:30 p.m. for pregame performances by "Bangers & Mash," the Ridgewood Dance Academy and Erin Hill & her Psychadelic Harp!
