
Harrison Triples, Chiefs Pass Kernels 8-7 on Sunday

Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs won their second straight game, defeating the Cedar Rapids Kernels 8-7 on a walk-off triple in the ninth Sunday afternoon in front of a season high home crowd of 4,241. The win moves the Chiefs to 7-8 on the season and 6-2 at home.
The Kernels got on the board early and took a 2-0 lead in the first. Tyson Auer struck out to begin the inning then Alexi Amarista walked. Hector Estrella hit a two-run home run over the left field wall making the score 2-0.
The Chiefs answered back and took the lead in the second. Kyler Burke led off the inning with a pop up to Darwin Perez. Josh Vitters led off the Chiefs rally with a single to center field. Ryan Flaherty singled to right-center advancing Vitters to third. Michael Brenly hit an RBI single to left scoring Vitters and advancing Flaherty to second. Junior Lake followed with his own RBI single to left scoring Flaherty and advancing Brenly to third. With Tony Campana up to bat, a wild pitch thrown by Chris Scholl plated Brenly and Lake advanced to third. Campana then grounded out to end the inning with the Chiefs in the lead 3-2. Peoria increased their lead in the fifth, adding on two more to make it a 5-2 ball game. Lake started the inning with a double to center. Campana bunted for a single to advance Lake to third. Josh Harrison hit an RBI sacrifice fly scoring Lake and advancing Campana to second.
With Ridling up to bat, Campana stole his seventh base of the season to reach third. Burke singled to left plating Campana and advancing Ridling to third with the Chiefs leading 5-2.
The Kernels cut into the Chiefs lead in the seventh making the score 5-4. Matt Crawford began the inning with a walk. Anel De Los Santos hit the Kernels second home run of the day with a towering shot over the left field wall. After Perez walked, Chiefs reliever Josh Whitlock entered the game. Auer bunted into a fielder's choice getting Perez out at second. Auer was then caught stealing for the second out in the inning. Amarista singled to left with the bases empty. Estrella doubled down the left field line to advance Amarista to third. With two on, Castillo struck out looking to end the inning.
Cedar Rapids took the lead for the second time in the ninth scoring three to make it a 7-5 ball game. De Los Santos started the rally with a single to left. Pinch runner Jon Townsend replaced De Los Santos. Perez then singled to right sending Townsend to third. Auer singled to center plating Townsend and advancing Perez to second. Amarista flew out to left for the first out of the inning. Estrella doubled down the right field line scoring Perez and Auer while reaching third on the throw from Chiefs right fiedler Perez. A line drive and ground out ended the inning with the Kernels up 7-5.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Chiefs pulled out an 8-7 win on a walk-off triple. Brenly reached first on a fielding error by Cedar Rapids shortstop Perez. Perez doubled to right and advanced Brenly to third. Lake stuck out swinging and was thrown out on a dropped third strike. Campana singled to the third baseman scoring Brenly and sending Perez to third. Harrison tripled to right-center scoring Perez and Campana to end the inning and the game with the Chiefs winning 8-7.
Justin Bristow made his 2009 debut and gave up two hits and two runs in two innings. Jeff Beliveau threw for four innings with two hits, two runs and two strikeouts. Josh Whitlock allowed three runs on five hits with one strikeout in two innings. Ryan Buchter got the win (1-0) in one inning and only one hit.
Casey's General Store Player of the Games - Junior Lake (SS) and Josh Harrison (DH)- Lake was 3 for 4 with a double, two singles, a run scored and an RBI. It was hit first three hit of the year. Harrison was 1 for four with a triple, sacrifice fly, three RBI. It was his fist multi-RBI of the year and first game winning hit of the season.
