South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

South Bend, IN - After the Silver Hawks routed Dayton 9-3 in the series opener Saturday, the Dragons returned the favor with an 8-1 win Sunday afternoon at Coveleski Stadium.

The Silver Hawks actually got the scoring started against Dayton starter Matt Fairel (WP, 1-1) in the first, when Jake Elmore and Alfredo Marte his back-to-back doubles for the early 1-0 lead. Fairel then settled down and enjoyed his best outing of the year, allowing just one run on five hits through 7.0 innings for his first victory of the season.

The Dragons took the lead for good in the second inning when Tyler Stovall hit his first home run of the year - a three run shot off of South Bend starter Taylor Sinclair (LP, 0-1). Sinclair is still adjusting to the starting role after beginning the season in the bullpen, but struggled through 1.2 innings allowing three runs on five hits with three walks and a strikeout.

It remained a 3-1 game all the way until the eighth inning when the Dragons scored four times on a RBI single from Stovall, a RBI double from Dave Sappelt, and a two-run homer from Cody Puckett against reliever Jordan Meaker (ND). Dayton added another run in the ninth against Bayron Zepeda (ND), the first run allowed by Zepeda this season.

A bright spot for South Bend on the mound was reliever Sean Morgan (ND), who took over in the second and pitched through the sixth without allowing a run. Morgan's 4.1 innings of scoreless ball is the longest stretch for a South Bend reliever this season.

After two day games, the series moves to the evening hours with a 6:30 PM start Monday night. The Silver Hawks give the ball to RHP Trevor Harden (2-1, 3.18 ERA), with Dayton turning to RHP Josh Ravin (1-1, 2.40 ERA). Pregame coverage begins at 6:10 PM on 1620 AM "The Point" and online at www.silverhawks.com.
