Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.- A historic night for the Rockford IceHogs ended in dramatic fashion. The IceHogs topped the Kalamazoo Wings in another thrilling overtime contest, 4-3 in front of 3,331 at the Rockford MetroCentre on Saturday night. The IceHogs won the best-of-seven series, four-games-to-two and now advance to the Colonial Cup Semi-Finals.

Winger Terry Harrison clinched it for Rockford at 7:47 of the overtime. Kalamazoo goalie Joel Martin, who played spectacular in the series, tried to play a puck behind his own net. Hogs winger Bruce Watson cut him off and fired a pass to Harrison in front, who in return, buried his first goal of the post-season and sending the MetroCentre crowd into a frenzy.

All didn ‚¬â„¢t start well for Rockford however. The Wings jumped out to a 2-0 lead, their first two-goal advantage of the series. Defenseman Shaun Fisher hammered home his second goal of series at 8:42 of the opening frame. Fellow blue-liner Daniel Carrier followed with a power play goal at 13:01.

The Hogs responded with a power play goal of their own. Winger Brandon Segal tallied his league leading seventh goal of the post-season at 17:23 to cut the lead in half. It didn ‚¬â„¢t take Rockford long to tie the score in the second period. Defenseman Nathan Lutz fired in his second post-season tally just 50 seconds in to the middle frame.

In the third period, Rockford pushed Kalamazoo to the brink. Segal scored his second goal of the night on the power play at 12:41 to give Rockford their first lead of the contest. The game marked the third time in the series in which Segal had a multi-goal game. But the Wings didn ‚¬â„¢t back down as d-man Greg Labenski knocked in the equalizer on the power play at 12:41, eventually sending the game to overtime.

Rockford was out-shot for the fourth time in the post season, this time 48-31. Robinson made 45 saves to earn his fourth post-season win. Rockford went 2-for-6 on the power play, while Kalamazoo was 2-for-6.

Next Game: The IceHogs became the first team to qualify for the semi-finals of the Colonial Cup Playoffs. The IceHogs will release their next opponent, dates and times when they are available. For tickets to the semi-finals, contact the MetroCentre Box Office at (815) 968-5222.
