Harris Voted USL Championship Player of the Month for March
April 11, 2024 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Louisville City FC News Release
The USL Championship announced Thursday that Louisville City FC forward Wilson Harris had been voted the league's Player of the Month for March as the 24-year-old made a remarkable start to the new campaign with four goals in three games to lead LouCity to a perfect opening month of the season.
Now in his third season at LouCity, the 2020 Championship Young Player of the Year set a league landmark in the opening game of the season as his game-winning goal in Louisville's 1-0 victory at El Paso Locomotive FC saw him become the youngest player in league history to reach 50 regular season goals aged 24 years, 3 months and 17 days old.
Harris continued his stellar start to the campaign with the opening goal in his side's 3-1 victory against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on March 23 before rounding out the month with two goals in a 5-0 victory against Birmingham Legion FC.
"I'm really happy with the start of the season," Harris said. "The hard work we have put in is showing, and we have to continue with the same intensity every day. My teammates have helped set me up to score so far, and I hope to continue playing at this level."
After his hat trick against rival Indy Eleven this past Saturday, Harris now has 56 goals in 129 appearances in the league's regular season overall. His strike rate of a goal every 148.8 minutes places him fourth in league history among players with at least 50 goals.
For LouCity coach Danny Cruz, the focus and energy Harris has shown so far this year have the traits of a player whose game has found another level.
"This is a kid that came in this offseason with a point to prove," Cruz said following LouCity's victory against Indy. "His preseason was phenomenal. He's a part of our leadership group for a reason because he showed me the growth that he has had in the offseason and really what he's building towards."
Harris received 37% of a weighted poll that included the USL Championship Technical Committee, a national panel of independent media representing every USL market and an online fan vote held at USLChampionship.com. Detroit City FC's Maxi Rodriguez finished second on 35% after leading Le Rouge's perfect start of three wins in three games with two goals and two assists individually.
