Harris Blasts Two Homers to Propel Jackals Past Boulders in Series Opener
June 19, 2018 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Jersey Jackals News Release
The Jackals offensive momentum continued on Tuesday night, as they defeated the Rockland Boulders, 7-2, at Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls, NJ.
David Harris was undoubtedly the star of the evening, notching his second multi home run game this season to carry the Jackals offense.
New Jersey got things started in the first frame, with a Carlos Triunfel single, and an error by Boulders left fielder Brandon Martinez enabling Triunfel to advance to second base. Dean Green followed with a double to drive home Triunfel for the game's first run. Then, David Harris cranked a long two-run homer over the video board in left field to make it 3-0.
Jackals starter Alberto Rodriguez hit a minor bump in the road in the second inning, as back-to-back run scoring singles from Brandon Martinez and J.C. Rodriguez cut New Jersey's lead to 3-2.
The Jackals would answer by scoring runs in each of the next four innings. In the 3rd inning, Jordan Hinshaw slugged a triple in only his 2nd career at-bat as a member of the Jackals, and and came home on a Dean Green sacrifice fly to make it 4-2 in favor of New Jersey.
Kevin Torres then added an RBI single in the 4th inning. David Harris then launched an opposite field home run in the 5th, his second of the night to make it 6-2. Danny Canela capped off the scoring by homering to right field in the 6th inning, ending Boulders starter Kagen Hopkins evening on a sour note.
Hopkins earned a loss, surrendering nine hits and seven earned runs over six innings. Alberto Rodriguez improved his record to 2-3, allowing only two earned runs on six hits and striking out five over six quality innings.
Manager Brooks Carey then turned it over to his formidable late inning bullpen, as Jose Velez, Nate Gercken and Mat Latos each tossed a scoreless frame apiece to close things out.
With the win, the Jackals have now pinnacled above the .500 mark for the first time in the 2018 campaign, improving their record to 15-14. They are now tied for fourth place in the Can-Am League standings.
The series continues on Wednesday night, as the Jackals and Boulders will face off again from Yogi Berra Stadium with first pitch slated for 7:05 pm.
