Brampton Beast News Release

BRAMPTON, ONTARIO - The Brampton Beast, ECHL affiliate of the St. John's IceCaps and Montreal Canadiens, announce today that mighty defenseman Tim Billingsley has re-signed with the club for the upcoming 2016-17 ECHL season.

Billingsley, 26, will be entering his second full season in the ECHL as a member of the Beast. Last season, the Ottawa, Ontario native suited up for 53 games and collected three goals with seven assists to accompany his 37 penalty minutes.

A draft pick of the NHL's Arizona Coyotes in 2008, Billingsley spent four seasons in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) system playing for his hometown Carleton University. In 84 CIS games played between the 2011-12 and 2014-15 seasons, the 6'2" rearguard showed poise and promise at both ends of the ice in registering 10 goals, 42 assists and 62 penalty minutes.

Billingsley proved himself to be a dependable defenseman who isn't afraid to join the rush and is looking forward to patrolling the blue line for the Beast again this season.

"I'm really excited to be back," Billingsley said. "I've been keeping busy training hard in the offseason. Last year was a real learning experience for me and I'm confident this upcoming season our team will have more than a fighting chance every night. Having Coach Chaulk and Coach Goulet back will certainly help with the Beast moving forward, and was part of my decision to come back to the Beast."

Prior to turning pro, Billingsley was an Ontario Hockey League mainstay with the Toronto St. Michael's Majors, Mississauga St. Michael's Majors and Niagara IceDogs between the 2006-07 and 2010-11 seasons. He was a punishing presence at both ends of the ice during his time in the OHL, recording a total of 12 goals and 53 assists with 292 penalty minutes in 265 games played.

Billingsley played his first professional games with the Central Hockey League's Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees in 2011-12, where he recorded two goals and three assists in 15 games played.

Beast Head Coach and Vice President of Hockey Operations Colin Chaulk liked what he saw out of Billingsley last season and excited to see what he can do in his second full season in the ECHL.

"He's one of those guys who does things a lot of guys aren't willing to do," Chaulk said. "He can kill penalties, block shots and we believe he can provide more offense. One of the best qualities Billingsley possesses is his transition game. We're excited to watch him do it again this season."
