Returner Trenz, Newcomer Sampair Sign with Aces
ANCHORAGE, ALASKA - The Alaska Aces, proud affiliate of the NHL's Vancouver Canucks and AHL's Utica Comets, have signed defensemen Ryan Trenz and forward Charlie Sampair for the 2016-17 season.
Head Coach and President of Hockey Operations Rob Murray made the announcement Wednesday.
Trenz, 24, joined the Aces after completing his college eligibility at NCAA Northern Michigan University. He played in 103 games for the Wildcats, scoring four goals and adding 12 assists for 16 points and 77 penalty minutes. The 5-11, 190 pound native of St. Louis, Missouri played 7 games in Glacier Blue.
"Ryan is a young, physical defenseman who hits hard," said Murray. "He gave us some quality minutes at the end of last season and earned an invite back."
Sampair, 22, was signed by the Aces after he completed his eligibility at NCAA University of Minnesota-Duluth. A native of St. Paul, Minnesota, the 6-1, 205 pound center played in 102 games for Duluth, recording five goals, and nine assists with 33 penalty minutes.
"Charlie comes from a quality program at Duluth," said Murray. "He's a fast skater...we're looking for him to find his scoring touch at the pro level and give us some depth at center this season."
Trenz and Sampair join forwards Peter Sivak and Kenny Babinski, defensemen Brandon Martell and Nick Cecere and goaltender Lukas Hafner as announced Aces signings for the 2016-17 ECHL season.
