WUERFEL PARK - The Traverse City Beach Bums are excited to announce the addition of outfielder Brandon Jacobs. A former 10th round draft pick of the Boston Red Sox, Jacobs has 65 career professional home runs.

"Jacobs is an immediate impact player and one of my top targets for a good portion of the off-season" said Beach Bums' Director of Baseball Operations Jason Wuerfel. "He's the type of hitter that you have to account for in the lineup if you're the opposing manager both at the plate and on the bases. We're lucky to have him and our fans are really going to enjoy watching him play the game."

The Atlanta, GA native signed with Boston out of high school in 2009 and began his career that summer in the rookie-level Gulf Coast League. In 2010, he spent the season with Boston's SS-A affiliate in Lowell (MA) batting .242, six homers and 31 RBI in 64 games. The 2011 season saw another promotion, and Jacobs' best season offensively, as he joined the low-A Greenville (SC) Drive. There, he batted .303, 17 homers and 80 RBI. He also added career-best 30 steals.

Jacobs elevated to high-A Salem (VA) in 2012 and again displayed power hitting 13 homers and driving in 61 runs. He would then split the 2013 season between the high-A and Class AA levels while also switching from Boston to the Chicago White Sox organization. Despite the movement, he still belted 13 homers. That fall, Jacobs would also play 13 games in the prestigious Arizona Fall League with Glendale.

Last season, Jacobs switched to the Arizona Diamondbacks' system, playing for their high-A affiliate in Visalia (CA). In 89 games he clubbed 16 homers, 10 doubles and two triples.

Along with his 65 career homers, the 24 year old experienced pro has 125 doubles, eight triples and 274 RBI in his career.

Coming out of high school, Jacobs was not only a sought after baseball prospect but also coveted for the gridiron. Before signing with Boston, he had a scholarship to play at the University of Auburn.

The 10th season of Beach Bums baseball begins Friday May 15 at Evansville at 6:35pm with the home opener scheduled for Friday May 22nd vs. Windy City at 7:05pm.

All games will be broadcast live on 98.1 The Bear.

The Wuerfel Park offices are open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. The Beach Bums will play 51 games at Wuerfel Park in 2015 starting with the home opener and a FANtastic Fireworks Friday on May 22 at 7:05 pm. Season ticket packages are now available! Fans are invited to come on out to the ballpark and personally choose their seat or call 231-943-0100 for more information.
