Victoria HabourCats News Release
VICTORIA, B.C. - One priority of new Head Coach Graig Merritt and the management of the Victoria HarbourCats has been completed.
The West Coast League team is pleased to announce the signing of Alec Adame (a-DAHM-eh) to serve as pitching coach for the 2015 season. Adame, Merritt and General Manager Jim Swanson are hard at work recruiting players for the third edition of the Victoria HarbourCats.
"Alec was the first coach I thought of to build the staff you need to contend in this league, and I'm glad it came together so quickly," said Merritt, who was announced as the third Head Coach of the Victoria HarbourCats on August 14. "Alec is a teacher, he's a communicator, he's respected, and he has a network that will help us find the best pitching staff for the HarbourCats. I'm excited to be teaming with Alec again, and doing it in the West Coast League. College pitchers will get the best teaching and guidance possible by being on a staff guided by Alec Adame, and we are already getting positive feedback from college coaches who want to see their players led by an outstanding pitching coach."
Adame and Merritt played together at Chico State and helped that school win a NCAA Division-2 championship in 1999, and their paths have continued to cross as MLB scouts - Adame has evaluated talent for the San Diego Padres, for the Tampa Bay Rays, and has been the Southern California Area Scout for the St. Louis Cardinals since 2009.
Adame, who holds a Masters of Science Degree in Physical Education from Azusa Pacific University, is currently a Health and Kinesiology Instructor at East Los Angeles College, and is the Head Assistant Coach for the East LA CC baseball team, primarily responsible for the pitching staff.
"This is a great opportunity for me to work for a great organization and to help players on the path to professional baseball," said Adame, who was previously an assistant coach at Chico State and the Head Coach at Los Angeles City College. "Graig and I are already talking to schools up and down the West Coast, looking for the best pitching staff we can put together. The recruiting process is one I really enjoy, whether it be for the college programs I've been blessed to be a part of, or to find that elite group for a prestigious program like the Victoria HarbourCats. I've heard so much about Victoria and the support the whole community gives to the team, it will be an exciting and rewarding summer."
