Victoria HabourCats News Release

Solid pitching, spotless defence and a clutch hit -- tough to beat that combination.

In a game that flew by on Tuesday at Sports Traders Diamond at RAP, on Luv Salon and Salute to Rotary Night with 1,207 witnesses, the HarbourCats got an impressive first start from newly-arrived Jonathan Buckley, strong relief from Shawn Kennedy and Josh Mitchell, and a timely single from Austin Guibor to record a 2-1 victory over the visiting Kitsap BlueJackets.

Neither team committed an error -- simply a well-played game all around.

The two teams meet again on Wednesday at Sports Traders Diamond, with Matt Blais scheduled to get the start on a night which will feature delegates of the BC Elders Conference, with special pre-game ceremonies fans won't want to miss.

Buckley went 6 innings, scattering five hits and giving up one earned run, with three walks and six punch-outs. Kennedy came on for an inning of perfect relief with two strikeouts, and Josh Mitchell went six outs for the save with three strikeouts.

Chase Lambert was 2-3 and his ground-into-a-double-play in the fifth inning, while not an RBI, scored the first run and tied the game 1-1. In the bottom of the seventh, Guibor poked a single into centre field with one out to score Chris Fougner, who reached base on a fielder's choice after his sac bunt attempt did not advance the runner.

Scott Jarvis was 2-3 with a run, and Kevin Collard was 2-4. Lambert and Collard each had a stolen base.

The HarbourCats improve to 10-16 on the season with their sights set on getting to the .500 mark as the team also prepares for a six-game trip that takes them through Klamath Falls and Medford.
