HarbourCats Bring Back Dondanville, Meyer
September 8, 2015 - West Coast League (WCL)
Victoria HabourCats News Release
VICTORIA, B.C. - Already, the Victoria HarbourCats have confirmed four players are coming back from the 2015 team - strike that, and make it a half-dozen.
RHP Austin Dondanville and C Nick Meyer, both from Cal Poly, will be in familiar HarbourCats colors in 2016, the team has confirmed. Joining them on the roster which now sits at 12, are RHP Colin Ashworth of Orange Coast College and IF Rykker Tom, a Team USA standout who has committed to the University of San Diego.
- RHP Austin Dondanville, 6-0/195, Walnut Creek, CA, Cal Poly, sophomore
- C Nick Meyer, 6-0/190, Mission Viejo, CA, Cal Poly, freshman
- 2B Rykker Tom, 5-11/160, Cedar City, UT, University of San Diego, incoming freshman in 2016
- RHP Colin Ashworth, 6-2/175, Placentia, CA, Orange Coast College, redshirt freshman
"It's always a good thing to have returning players, and Austin and Nick both fit well with our program and we're glad to see them back," said General Manager Jim Swanson. "Cal Poly has come to trust our program and we've established a good relationship with that great baseball school."
Meyer (right), who is entering his freshman season, was a strong catch-and-throw receiver for the HarbourCats in 2015 and came on strong the second half to post a .227 average in 25 games. Dondanville (left) received votes for the WCL post-season all-star teams after going 4-3 with a 2.80 ERA, striking out 42 and allowing 54 hits and 19 walks in 57.2 innings, the second-highest total on the team behind Dominic Topoozian (Fresno State).
Tom (right) was highly recruited and, much like future teammate Kevin Collard, is high on MLB draft charts. He hit .429 with 13 extra-base hits in 23 games as a high school junior and has been part of the USA Baseball national team program for a few years.
Ashworth (left) was at Arizona State but has transferred to Orange Coast College. The product of well-known sports school Whittier Christian, Ashworth is the nephew of former MLB pitcher Floyd Bannister.
"Colin will bring experience to our pitching staff, and Rykker's raw skill level is something our coaches are excited to work with," said Swanson. "Both these players have been watched closely by scouts and the top college programs, and we think they will develop even more with a summer in Victoria."

TICKETS AVAILABLE
If you were unable to use some of your tickets from the 2015 season, you're not out of luck. While 2015 unused tickets cannot be exchanged for entry into a 2016 game, there is a way to get value from them - for a limited time. The HarbourCats are pleased to let fans know that unused, un-scanned tickets - from season ticket holders, 10-pack holders, or from rain dates - can be used as credit against packages for our 2016 season. Bring your tickets to the office, and the face value will be applied toward the purchase price of either season tickets for 2016, or 10-packs - Premium Seats, or General Admission. (*Limit of one per purchase/customer.)
The HarbourCats' offer of season tickets at 2015 pricing (no additional taxes, no additional service charges) will end at the end of September. More than 100 season tickets, including many in the popular Main Grandstand (Section 10) are already gone.
Here's how it works:
- 2016 Premium Season ticket, $350 - less face value of one unused/un-scanned ticket
- 2016 General Admission ticket, $250 - less face value of one unused/un-scanned ticket
- 2016 Premium 10-pack, $142 - less face value of one unused/un-scanned ticket
- 2016 Gen. Admission 10-pack, $92 - less face value of one unused/un-scanned ticket
Current season ticket holders have been given the opportunity to secure their seats first, also at 2015 pricing, before any increases. Some ticket pricing will rise to keep in step with operational cost increases, including the weakening Canadian dollar.
