Tri-City Americans News Release
KENNEWICK, WA - Tri-City Americans 2014-15 Captain Justin Hamonic will join the Alaska Aces of the ECHL for the team's final five games of the regular season and ECHL Playoffs.
Hamonic, who just concluded his 20-year-old WHL season, ended his career tied for 20th all-time in games played for the Americans with 255. He ends his career with three goals, 43 assists, a -17 rating and 199 penalty minutes. Originally drafted by the Americans in the 5th Round (102nd overall) of the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft, Hamonic played his first full WHL season in 2011-12, making his WHL debut as a member of the Americans on Sept. 30, 2011, at Portland.
"It's been a great opportunity here in Tri with my four years playing junior hockey here," Hamonic said. "I learned a lot of things but it's an exciting time for me to go try pro's, see what it's all about and enjoy the next step in my hockey career and further the dream. I'm excited to go play there and see how I do."
The Aces are the defending Kelly Cup champions and have won the ECHL championship three times in the last ten years. Hamonic will join the Aces tomorrow, Friday, April 3, in West Valley City, Utah, for the Aces games against the Grizzles this Friday and Saturday.
"We are extremely proud of Justin and wish him all the best," Americans' Governor/GM Bob Tory said . "He was a special player and person, and a great captain."
